Inspired by our old border terrier, a tangle of fur and fun!.
What a find! This hefty ,vibrant section of mooring material was instantly a dog, it's whiskery muzzle proclaiming that was the head. All it required was 4 legs. Easier said than done.
One cannot set out in search of a specific piece. 'Tis all a game of chance. Those 4 legs took years of trawling several miles of shore. Eventually, having found around 8 possibles, the very best and most compatible limbs were fitted, confirming the animals posture.
The real life Pongo , lived with us for almost 16 years and was a steadfast companion. I don't recall her chewing or biting an item of salvage. She lies buried at the foot of the sea-garden, 10 yards from her beloved beach.

Sid Burnard was born in Brighton in 1948. Introduced to the art of beachcombing by his Romany grandmother, Sid learnt to appreciate the beauty of nature from an early age. His time at Bristol Guild of Applied Arts gave him a profound understanding of visual arts and crafts and allowed him to put his personal vision into practice.
He is now based in Borth near Aberystwyth in Wales, where the flotsam and jetsam from the nearby sea is his only source of materials. Working with found objects, nothing is changed - simply introduced to one another. His driftwood pieces, usually birds, boats or mythical beasts, are full of his passion, integrity and wonderful humour.
